Madam Listen: Learn from Lance Armstrong

Listen! Listen! Listen! What Sharifah Zohra should have listened to!!

We offered our free PR consultation to Madam Listen who seriously needed to rehabilitate her image and reputation after her tirade against a UUM student went viral recently.

We should have known.....she didn't Listen!!

Anyway, reproduced below for this blog.

PR Tips for Sharifah Zohra :)

Sharifah Zohra might be able to learn a thing or two from Lance Armstrong who recently admitted to using performance enhancement drugs in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Our (free) PR advice to rehabilitate your reputation- When in crisis, you should always remember to apologize (when you know your actions have tarnished your reputation/image), empathize (see it from the other party's point of view) and conclude with what you can do to improve the situation

Read more below (from PRSA)

"When Lance Armstrong met with the head of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency last month, he hoped he might reduce his lifetime ban from elite competition for what the agency called the “most sophisticated doping program on the planet.”

In an attempt to restore his image, Armstrong is launching a public campaign that includes a two-part interview with Oprah Winfrey scheduled tonight, in which he reportedly admits to using performance-enhancing drugs.

“To rehabilitate his image, he needs to do many things, and he must do them without a quid pro quo that it will lead to any exoneration,” Len Shyles, professor of communication at Villanova University, tells the Christian Science Monitor. “He owes many apologies to many individuals and interests … he defrauded businesses and people of millions of dollars and some may have been severely damaged.”

Armstrong has apologized to the staff of the Livestrong Foundation, the charity he founded to help cancer patients, which was called the Lance Armstrong Foundation before he was stripped of his Tour de France titles and banned from cycling. During the meeting with Tygart, Armstrong reportedly said there is only “one person who holds the keys to my redemption, and that’s me.” — Greg Beaubien"

What a Boot Camp It Was!!!!

18 participants, 7 trainers, 3 days - what a Boot Camp it was!

With juicy media relations tips from Charles Mohan (Assignement Editor, NTV7), Puspavathy Ramaloo (Award winning journalist, TV3), Mazlinda Mahmood (Chief Correspondent NST) and Anne Edwards (need I say more), participants gave thumbs-up to the first ever Public Relations Boot Camp held recently at Eastin Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

On day 2, participants were exposed to a some what 'very real' crisis scenario and were thrown at the deep end. Forming two groups, one journalists and the other a corporate company dealing with a CEO charged with a sexual harassment suit by his secretary, teams first prepared a crisis communication plan and holding statements. They then had to face hard hitting questions from journalists. Participants also discussed on the recent KFC crisis, Domino's food scandal, BP Oil Spill and etc. Experienced trainer, M Krishnamoorthy, crisis communication expert Manminder Dhillon and senior journalist Puspavathy Ramaloo were the trainers for this session.

And finally on day 3, social media 101, with participants getting hands on knowledge on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. Awesome session with the awesome Julian Matthews.
